Update on Sadie

For those of who you don't know, our sweet Sadie girl has been giving us a run for our money! She has been delayed in her speech for quite some time and has been receiving speech therapy since May. It has now been determined that she needs to have occupational therapy as well for some sensory and behavioral issues she has had. The OT seems to think that Sadie might have a left neglect which means that something could be wrong neurologically. We were told by our pediatrician to see a neurologist, ophthamologist, and maybe a developmental pediatrician. We were also told that these appointments, besides the ophthamologist, would take months. Amazingly, we were given an appointment for today for the neurologist! The Lord has been so gracious to provide for us!

The appointment went well today. We did not receive any big news nor did the doctor seem to think that there is anything glaringly wrong. She said that the left neglect is very hard to determine at such an early age. The doctor felt like Sadie was not showing clear signs of a neglect. She did feel that Sadie was developmentally delayed in her speech and fine motor skills. The good news, in her opinion, was that Sadie is so social and interacts great with people. With therapy, she hopes that Sadie will catch up. The doctor ordered a CBC and a MRI. We had the blood work done at the hospital, which was pretty traumatic! Joe just called me to tell me that the hospital called and the doctor wanted to run more test on her blood...so back to the hospital we will go. Yikes, please pray that will go well. The MRI is scheduled for Sept. 19. The MRI will help determine if there is anything bigger going on. Until then, we see the pediatric ophthamologist on Friday.

We are thankful that there doesn't seem to be a glaring issue with Sadie. The developmental delays has been very challenging for us all, but we are so thankful that Sadie is overall healthy and happy (for the most part;)). As we walked out of the Children's Hospital and looked around, it could be so much worse. I am thankful to my God for giving us this adorable and feisty little girl! These things are so out of our control and they cause us to cling to our Savior and rest in the peace He gives, knowing that He is good and in control. Thank you so much for all your prayers and the many ways in which you have encouraged our family. We rejoice in the love of our Father through you. Please continue to pray for Sadie, that she will learn to speak and that we would have wisdom in how to best care for her. Pray that if there is something bigger going on that the doctors would find it.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad you are going to resurrect the blog:). I'm even more glad the doctor wasn't too concerned today! Oh, and I'm sorry about the blood draws...I remember those with Samuel. He still remembers them too and is traumatized from how many times he had to do that! Poor babies!
