I wanted to give you an update from last week on Sadie. We saw the eye doctor on Friday and he saw no signs of apraxia or neglect! We were relieved to hear this. We headed back to the hospital for more blood to be drawn. Thankfully, they were able to get it the first time and it wasn't as bad as the Monday visit.
The past month Sadie has been waking up at night and having what seems to be night terrors. She wakes after about two hours of sleep and goes into a fit. It is hard to explain what it has been like and how difficult it has been. The episodes last about 30 minutes with her screaming, crying, thrashing around, and vomiting...she is unable to be comforted. Last week she also began scratching, pinching, and biting at us. Sunday night she began throwing up blood. It has been heart wreching. We feel very helpless and have no idea how to help her. I have spoken with our pediatrician and the neurologist and they said to wake her after 30 minutes to an hour of her going to sleep in order to break that sleep cycle. Some nights this works and others it does not. One doctor wondered if it were seizures, and the other one thinks they are not! So we are left confused and anxious for a solution. If anyone has ever experienced anything similar and has any suggestions please let me know. The neurologist did decide to schedule Sadie an EEG after I spoke to her yesterday. She does seem to think that Sadie is having night terrors and not seizures, but maybe this will help determine what is happening. The doctor did get some of Sadie's blood work back and her ferritin level was very low. Ferritin is a protein in the body that attaches to iron. Sadie's level was within the normal range but at the very low end. They prescribed her an iron supplement and she will start it today. Maybe this will help. You can pray it will.
As you can imagine, this has been very difficult for me and Joe. Please pray that the Lord would give us and the doctors wisdom to know how to best help sweet Sadie. It is very unnerving to not know what is wrong and how to best care for her. We wonder if there is something bigger going on or is it as simple (but not really!) as night terrors. I have found great comfort and hope in God's word...
"When my spirit grows faint within me, it is You who knows my way. " Psalm 142:3
"But my eyes are fixed on You, O Sovereign Lord; in You I take refuge." Psalm 141:8
May our eyes remain steadfast on Jesus as we trust in Him.

Praying for y'all Susie. I can't imagine how hard that must be! Praying for the doctors to have wisdom and to at least give y'all some guidance soon- and of course for quick healing.
Hey Susie! I actually went through a period when I had night terrors - about the age of 10. I can still remember them vividly, it was the same dream night after night. I would sleep walk and scream and thrash and even tried to break thorugh my bedroom window, cutting my eye on the glass one night. I had the neuro tests done, but nothing was ever found. We made a slight possible connection to a cough syrup I had taken, but never really knew for sure. I eventually grew out of it, but it was very hard on my parents each night and embarrassing for me, considering my age. Keep loving on her and comforting her and praying with her. Hopefully it will end soon!
Hi Susie - I clicked on your blog from Rachel's tonight, and just wanted to offer some support - Anna Wells (she just turned three) has night terrors as well. They are so so hard as a parent to watch - I cry most nights after she's had them. Hers sound similar to Sadie's, but she has never vomited. She typically wets herself, which is what will eventually wake her up. She screams "I want my momma!" over and over again, and pushes me away while yelling it. I will pray that these will stop for both of our girls...it's heartbreaking. :(
