Paci Update...

Well, this picture says it all...what's that in Noah's hand you might ask? Yep, that's his beloved paci! It somehow reappeared from the mailman after 5 days and 4 LONG nights!!! Bottom line: we caved!!! Pathetic I know! Thanks for all your sweet encouragement on the last post. All was well for the night. We thought the second night battle and 4 a.m. battle would get better...it didn't. It only got worse! How is that possible? We were at a loss for what to do. Did we take it away too soon or too late? Could he really understand what was going on? He is in there crying and screaming forever, do we let him cry it out or go to him? Oh, the endless back and forth questioning! It will drive you crazy! Joe was at the end of his rope since he was the one trying to lay down with him (which is the only way we were getting him to sleep each night) He was ready to cave, I was not so sure. But for the sake of my sweet husband, I said fine. You would think that Noah would be elated and go fast asleep... WRONG! Now, he is used to one of us being in there with him helping him fall asleep, so he is now pitching an even bigger fit AND getting out of his bed!!! In Joe's eyes, "worst mistake we've ever made taking that paci away"! So, we had made it (barely, felt like we had a newborn again) to day 5 and now we are on day 3 post- paci and Noah has gotten out of bed three times...

Madeline and I went to see Dr. Bush today because she had a high fever. She has a slight ear infection in her right ear. I ask Dr. Bush his advice after I tell him the story! He says that we definitely waited too long to take it away (he suggests 2 years old) and that usually the child doesn't put up much of a fuss if you give it to his favorite animal or a baby cousin (yada yada). He seemed surprised that Noah was acting that bad!!! HA! If knocking his head and feet against the wall are any indication...we have a long road ahead! Dr. Bush suggested that we try again in a few weeks or month and talk it up to him in the days to come. Or a few years if Joe has his way!!!!!!!

I am so sorry, it is really a pain isn't it! Good luck with round 2, Mia still has hers at night. We mailed all of them except for 1, just in case! She can only have it for bedtime. Keep me updated!

Oh, dear...oh, dear. You're the parents and you know your breaking point. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Meryt is NO where near giving hers up yet, even though I cut it. I'm going to wait until summer...it's only five months away. And seriously...what's five months in the span of a whole life time? (That's what I"m telling myself...as well as TAKE IT AWAY EARLY from baby #2 when there is one).

okay, I just had to comment. That was HA-larious! Esp.that the round one was noah's! Does it make you feel any better that my almost 7m old is still waking up for a bottle at 3 or 4AM? I am glad for you that you gave in, probally the best thing...???

Isn't parenthood wonderful? You might not think it now but you probably won't remember this 10 years from now. I doubt any permanent damage has been done. We're anxious to hear the results of Round 2. And the winner is.....

XOXO,

Suz- i'm so sorry!!! That stinks! i can only imagine how tuff your nights have been. i don't blame you- i can't say i wouldn't do the exact same thing. my friend did the same thing heather does with mia, and only gave her son the paci when they were in the car or at bedtime- then eventually, he stopped asking for it (and they didn't remind him. Ha!) Good luck!!!! i hope your days and nights get better soon, and that sweet madelyn feels better. Love yoU!

That is too cute. I'm so sorry you've had such a time with the paci. Thanks for the encouragement early on to not get Maggie hooked! I love the "Round 1: Noah"!!

Hi! I found your site off "the Pelton Family's" page. I saw the blog about paci's and had to read! My 2 1/2 yr. old son still has his at night and naptime (and lately on long trips in the car). We've tried to break it several times, (he even got a hole in it once..didn't help!) He crys and crys at night (if we don't give it to him) and will NOT go to sleep w/out it?? I was hoping your idea of "mailing" them off would help!! I was going to use that (i even showed it to my husband):-) We still may try it, but I'll definitly keep a back up for sanity purposes!! Good luck w/ it! If I find anything that works, I'll let you know! Very cute blog!!

I distinctly remember picking out my own pacifiers (yes I was that old---four, I think), but my mother kept telling me that one day, when I got too old for it, I wouldn't like it anymore. Sure enough, one day, after getting a brand new pacifier, I put it in my mouth and then immediately threw it across the room. I never desired one ever again. I learned many years later that my mom had dipped it in thumbsucking solution.
